Miss Harriett Quanimptewa is a Hopi Indian who has attended several predominately Native American schools in Arizona. Harriett is now a student at Northern Arizona University. Interviewed by Philip Reed Rulon Associate Professor of History Northern Arizona University on May 5 1977. Topics discussed in the interview include: Harriett's family and educational background on Second Mesa; she discusses her first school Second Mesa Day School and junior high school in Oraibi; she then transferred to Flagstaff Junior High School; she commuted from Flagstaff from Happy Jack to attend school; she then attended Coconino High School but transfered to Flagstaff High School; then she attended Northern Arizona University; she discusses the goals of Indian education and the importance of bilingual teachers; she gives her thoughts on Hopis returning to the reservation; and she gives her views and comments on the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the American Indian Movement.
