Congressman Peter H. Dominick (R-Colo.) gives a report of his tour of U.S. air bases in Western Europe, the Middle East and Asia Minor in [1961] with a group of fellow U.S. Air Force Reserve officers under the command of Brigadier General Barry S. Goldwater. Rep. Dominick and Sen. Goldwater discuss their observations made during of trip, which was to assess the readiness of NATO bases to defend countries in the region against the possible encroachment of Russian communist forces. Dominick also discusses the importance of U.S. support of Iran and its government, saying that Iran is the key to preventing Russia from spreading its influence to the Asian and African continents. Sen. Goldwater comments on Russian efforts to gain allies and neutralize countries in Scandanavia and the Mediterranean area.
