Interview with David Andrews conducted by Nancy McElroy. David was surprised to learn he was a Legend of Dance since he isn’t a dancer, choreographer, or teacher but his 25+ years of documenting dance qualifies him as a Legend. In 1991 David realized he was spending all his time working and decided he’d like to try photographing and videoing dance performances for fun. As a resident of Granby, he has spent numerous hours driving to Denver and Boulder to work with a variety of dance companies. Among those companies are previous Legends including Cleo Parker Robinson, Frequent Flyers, Colorado Ballet, 3rd Law, Boulder Ballet, Hannah Kahn, Mary Wohl Haan, and faculty at the University of Colorado/Boulder. He has also worked with many small, upcoming companies over the years providing his services at little charge or for free. He has watched and documented the changes in front range dance over the years as well as experienced the technological advances in both still photography and videography. In 2019, David often has 2 or more bookings per weekend and stays busy documenting a wide range of dance companies year-round.
