Here are some tips based on her experience:
- It’s okay to be nervous when you meet your host family for the first time. Additionally, lack of an instant connection doesn’t automatically indicate that you won’t have a good relationship with the host family. Building relationships takes time.
- Understand that you will be joining in on someone’s life, and they can face the same ups and downs as you do. It’s important to be aware that the family will have their imperfections, but this doesn’t have to be something that drives you away from the situation.
