Interview with Henry Miles conducted by Sandra Minton. Henry Miles became interested in dance as a child because his mother was a ballroom dancer. He won his first ballroom competition at six years old. Miles studied ballet at the Royal Academy of Dance but took time off to serve with the Royal Air Force in WWII. After the war, Miles returned to dance, working for Ballet Rampert. Miles danced with the Royal Ballet, London Metropolitan Ballet, and Sadler's Wells Opera Ballet. Miles moved to the United States in 1957 to pursue a teaching career. After working in theater and doing freelance teaching, Miles settled at Colorado State University. There he started a student ballet company, Le Petit Ballet de Chambre. Miles retired from CSU in 1989.
