Interview with Jerry Rumley conducted by Joan Brown. Jerry Rumley began his dance training at age 7 with a mixture of tap, singing, acrobatics, and elocution. In high school, during WWII, he and his dance partner joined a USO troupe and performed at military bases. After the war, he spent summers dancing at Central City Opera where he met Lillian Cushing. Jerry attended the University of Denver, studying theater and dance from Campton Bell and Martha Wilcox. He was hired at DU in 1962 as the director of the Dance Department with Dulcy Amter as his assistant. He also formed a small dance company that gave dance demonstrations and concerts, appearing at colleges and universities, large clubs, and nursing homes. After an early retirement, he served as a chaplain at St. Anthony's Hopital for 30 years.
