Aubry Andreas studied abroad in Paris, France
Here are some tips based on her experience:
- The housing accommodations in Paris tend to be very small. This is important to keep in mind as you pack.
- Set expectations with your host family at the start of your experience. This can include talking with them about your food preferences and what you hope to get out of the experience by staying with them. If they tell you right from the start that they are not looking to spend much time with their student, it could be possible to switch host families and find one that meets your needs. That being said, it’s still important to understand cultural differences and scheduling differences that might keep a busy family from spending a lot of time with you.
- Be very honest when a problem arises.
- Understand that you all have different lifestyles and preferences. Learn to recognize these differences and appreciate them for the short time you are abroad rather than resent them.
