Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major, "Lobgesang"

Lobgesang, “Hymn Of Praise,” is actually the fourth in the chronological order of the Mendelssohn symphonies, however it was numbered second by its editors since, at that time, the Symphony in C major, Op. 11 was his only published symphony. Lobgesang was written in 1840 as a commission to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Gutenberg’s invention of moveable printing press; Mendelssohn himself conducted the first performance on June 25 of the same year.
