University Writing Program Teaching Associate Professor John Tiedemann shares the story of the DU Community Writing Center, a campus-community partnership committed to the struggle against poverty and on behalf of the human right to share stories. Located in two of Denver’s largest homeless shelters and staffed by faculty from the University Writing Program and DU students, the Community Writing Center supports writers experiencing poverty in their efforts to tell their stories and make them heard. Professor Tiedemann shares stories by and about guests at the shelters, and the roles that storytelling has played in the history of antipoverty activism.
