Celebrating Teacher-Scholars: An Evening with Provost Mary Clark and Professor of Social Work and Founding Director of the LatinX Center, Deb Ortega
Please also join us for the first 2023-24 Celebrating Teacher-Scholars Lecture featuring Professor Ortega, who embodies the spirit of the teacher-scholar model in higher education. DU is committed to the teacher-scholar model, which benefits students and faculty as it combines excellence in teaching, informed by pedagogical advances, with active engagement in innovative research activities that improve the quality and relevance of the curriculum.
Dr. Ortega’s talk titled, “It’s not ‘either or’...it’s ‘yes and’...” highlights how teaching extends well beyond the classroom, permeating the work of faculty, as well as the importance of scholarship born out of teaching as a means by which to advance disciplines. She provides an overview of her vision of the relationship between teaching and scholarship along with strategies that she uses in the classroom to illustrate her approach as a teacher-scholar.
