Senator Peter H. Dominick (R-Colo.) conducts a press conference on the Vietnam War in the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee Room, U.S. Capitol Building, in Washington, D.C. on June 1, 1967. Sen. Dominick reports on observations he made during his two week fact finding trip to Vietnam and Thailand for the Armed Services Committee including Cambodia's role in the war, the prospect for success in the war, the effectiveness of air strikes against North Vietnam, troop morale and expertise, and the geographic extent of the fighting. Dominick recommends bringing in a naval battleship to assist in bombarding military targets and urges support for both a pacification and revolutionary development program in South Vietnam. He also answers questions on topics including possible troop buildup, invading Cambodia to end their involvement in the war, the continuation of bombing in North Vietnam, using reserve troops versus draftees, sending troops into Thailand and North Vietnam, and whether the U.S. involvement in Vietnam would impede its ability to send troops to other problem areas such as the Middle East.
