In this Active Learning series video, Professor Daniel Singer discusses strategies for activating student learning through community-engaged multimodal composition in a service-learning project. Students were responsible for researching and writing about complex transportation issues connected to a $200,000 grant-funded program to plan the reconstruction of the University of Denver Light Rail Station. Working closely with a range of community stakeholders and Transportation Solutions, the large transit-management agency driving the station-area redesign, students collaborated to orchestrate a series of recorded town hall-style interview events with DU faculty and staff, representatives from registered neighborhood organizations, and officials within city government and the professional transit community before researching and producing a series of PSA videos designed to facilitate understanding and communication between those constituencies. A selection of their videos may be viewed on Transportation Solutions’s website at: http://www.transolutions.org/programs/student-work-2/
